How does bail work?
Bail is needed when an individual is arrested for a crime. That person will be taken to a local police station for processing. Once arrested and processed, the defendant has several options for release pending the conclusion of their case. Bail is designed to guarantee the appearance of a defendant in court at the time assigned by the court. There are 3 types of bonds the courts will use:

Surety Bond:

This is a bond that is posted by a surety (KY Bailbonds) having adequate assets to satisfy the face value of the bond. KY Bailbonds guarantees to the court that they will pay the bond if a defendant fails to appear for their scheduled court appearances.

For this service, the defendant is charged a premium 10% to 20% of the full bond amount. All bonds must have a friend or relative co-sign a contract promising their appearance in court or use collateral to secure the bond.
By involving the family and friends of a defendant, as well as through the acceptance of collateral, the bail agent can be reasonably assured that the defendant released on a surety bond will appear at all of his/her court appearances.

Cash Bond:

This is a bond that can only be posted with cash only with no exceptions. The cash that is put up will be returned to the defendant prior to resolving the case and all fines and fees are paid.
R.O.R Bond:

This is when the court or judge will release the defendant on their own recognizances or released on their own promise to appear in court.
